Quality of Service Issues in Internet Web Services

چکیده
WE take great pleasure in introducing this special section on aQuality of Service Issues in Internet Web Serviceso to the readership of the IEEE Transactions on Computers. This special section is comprised of seven papers, spanning caching, prefetching, replication, admission control, and router scheduling. The topics covered include theoretical and implementation aspects of provisioning quality of service (QoS). A large fraction of Internet users access network resources through web clients/browsers. The quality of service (QoS) experienced by their Internet users has gained great importance in recent years. Furthermore, new web applications require the delivery of multimedia data in real time (e.g., streaming stored video and audio) and information transfer through the Internet is becoming one of the principal paradigms for business: electronic sales, banking, finance, collaborative work are a few examples of this. The QoS perceived by its users is thus becoming a dominant factor for the success of an Internet-based Web service. The principal QoS attributes users perceive include those related to the service aresponsiveness,o i.e., the service availability and timeliness. The performance perceived by the users of a web service depends on the protocols that operate between web clients and servers. Solutions currently investigated in the literature range from new protocols to enhance the network QoS (e.g., differentiated services) to mechanisms running into the end systems to enhance the QoS perceived by the users (e.g., caching, prefetching, Web servers' replications, etc.). In the medium-term, it is envisaged that the Internet will evolve to a universal transport service that will be able to provide on demand delivery of multimedia data with QoS guarantees. Currently, the best effort service provided by an IP network has necessitated development of middleware tools to overcome insufficient bandwidth and high latency. The issues that need to be addressed to improve the QoS are:

Semantic Constraint and QoS-Aware Large-Scale Web Service Composition
Service-oriented architecture facilitates the running time of interactions by using business integration on the networks. Currently, web services are considered as the best option to provide Internet services. Due to an increasing number of Web users and the complexity of users’ queries, simple and atomic services are not able to meet the needs of users; and to provide complex services, it requ...
متن کاملQoS-Based web service composition based on genetic algorithm
Quality of service (QoS) is an important issue in the design and management of web service composition. QoS in web services consists of various non-functional factors, such as execution cost, execution time, availability, successful execution rate, and security. In recent years, the number of available web services has proliferated, and then offered the same services increasingly. The same web ...
متن کاملAutomatic Service Composition Based on Graph Coloring
Web services as independent software components are published on the Internet by service providers and services are then called by users’ request. However, in many cases, no service alone can be found in the service repository that could satisfy the applicant satisfaction. Service composition provides new components by using an interactive model to accelerate the programs. Prior to service comp...

متن کاملQoS-based Web Service Recommendation using Popular-dependent Collaborative Filtering
Since, most of the organizations present their services electronically, the number of functionally-equivalent web services is increasing as well as the number of users that employ those web services. Consequently, plenty of information is generated by the users and the web services that lead to the users be in trouble in finding their appropriate web services. Therefore, it is required to provi...
متن کاملA procedure for Web Service Selection Using WS-Policy Semantic Matching
In general, Policy-based approaches play an important role in the management of web services, for instance, in the choice of semantic web service and quality of services (QoS) in particular. The present research work illustrates a procedure for the web service selection among functionality similar web services based on WS-Policy semantic matching. In this study, the procedure of WS-Policy publi...
